RIP Junior Seau

Junior Seau's was found dead today in a bedroom in his Oceanside, California home. His death is being investigated as a suicide. He was found with a gunshot wound to the chest, and a handgun lay near his body. I will update this piece is evidence of foul play is found.

After starring at USC, Seau played linebacker in the NFL for twenty seasons with the San Diego Chargers, Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots. The Hall of Fame named to the All-Defensive team of the 90's. He is also a member of the San Diego Chargers Hall of Fame, along with numerous other accolades. He leaves behind three teenage children.

Seau was universally liked by everyone and he, according to former teammate Heath Evans, called everyone "Buddy". He also started the Junior Seau Foundation "with the mission to educate and empower young people through the support of child abuse prevention, drug and alcohol awareness, recreational opportunities, anti-juvenile delinquency efforts and complimentary educational programs."

Seau's is just the latest in a rash of recent former NFL player suicides that include, Andre Waters, Dave Duerson and, just last month, Ray Easterling.

Seau will be surely be missed by all, not just sports fans.

Last Train to Belingham

In honor of Valentine's day (A Day Late) Here's a poem I wrote for my wife, before we were married. i hope you enjoy it! Last Train to Bellingham Again the train is stopped. Sixty miles out of Portland and we've been stopped for thirty minutes. Now we're going again, and now we're stopped again. We're letting another freight train pass. Three kids next to me- (oh, Lord God, bless their mother) The crunching of a potato chip bag, nickels flung against my chair, disobedient little monsters! I scowl at them not hiding my contempt. Their mother looks (tired) at me, ready to leave the little monsters on the train. A bag of chips just exploded next to me. They are all over the floor. The carpet is greasy and crumby.
