Happpy Anniversary darling!

My wife and I went on our first date one year ago today. Obviously, the fact that I called her “wife” means we connected and, in the words of Ron Burgundy things “escalated quickly.” Here’s what happened. In September of last year, the band I was playing in (Who shall remain nameless. They do not need nor deserve a mention in this positive story. That’s another story…) got a new drummer, Nicky. He and his wife had just moved to Portland from Bellingham, Washington. We became fast friends. Fast forward to December of 2010, setting up for band practice, Nicky tells me that he knows a girl who wants to meet me. “How does she know of me?” “She’s been stalking you on Facebook. She’s a friend. From Bellingham . She’s really cute.” He showed me her picture. She was really cute. “She’s coming down to visit for New years’ Eve and she wants to meet you.” I was skeptical because I’d been in long distance relationships before. I wasn’t interested in another one, but, he gave me her number
Update: I've decided to self publish a poetry collection through Lulu until I can find a major publisher. I will be working on the book this coming week. My Latest Book review: Blood Diamonds, by Greg Campbell

By now, most people know about blood diamonds . For those that don’t, the term “blood diamonds” (sometimes referred to as " conflict diamonds ") is a slang term for diamonds that are mined and sold from war torn countries to fund civil wars, coups and general unrest, resulting in innumerable deaths and mutilations, mostly in Africa , and predominately in Sierra Leone . Freelance journalist Greg Campbell was one of the first to bring these rocks to light in his meticulously researched, gut wrenching and terrifying book, Blood Diamonds . Even though the vast majority of diamonds come from legitimate sources, the origin of most, if not all, diamonds, even with the latest protocols put in place, are nearly impossible to trace. Natural Born Citizens Only?

I’ve been hearing about the claims that President Barack Obama wasn’t born in the U.S. since before he was even elected and that, as a foreign born citizen, he is not eligible to be the president. I’m not here to address that and, frankly, I don’t care. Whether he’s from Nigeria or from Hawaii, I didn’t vote for him and don’t plan to vote for him in 2012. He’s done a lousy job just like his predecessor. What I am here to address is whether or not that law makes sense and if it should be changed or modified. This, of course, leads to the question of whether the U.S. Constitution is a static literally interpreted document, or a living one that can be interpreted in any number of ways. Currently, the 14 th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution defines a natural born citizen as “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside." So, this is my first blog. I have a blog as well at pdxkaraokeguy.hubpages.com. That blog, going forward, will be focused exclusively on literary things like poems and stories, etc etc. I started this one as a way to diversify and as a way to have an outlet for simple rants and raves, notes from daily life, and maybe the occasional money making tip. I hope you'll enjoy it! A little about me: I'm 31 years old, I'm married to an awesome woman, we have two furry children, Baby and Bella. I'm a student and a writer. I have a beard in the winter, I like beer, Jesus, poetry, food, literature, music (former wananbe rockstar), a nice pair of socks and tobacco.
