Natural Born Citizens Only?

I’ve been hearing about the claims that President Barack Obama wasn’t born in the U.S. since before he was even elected and that, as a foreign born citizen, he is not eligible to be the president. I’m not here to address that and, frankly, I don’t care. Whether he’s from Nigeria or from Hawaii, I didn’t vote for him and don’t plan to vote for him in 2012. He’s done a lousy job just like his predecessor.
What I am here to address is whether or not that law makes sense and if it should be changed or modified. This, of course, leads to the question of whether the U.S. Constitution is a static literally interpreted document, or a living one that can be interpreted in any number of ways.
Currently, the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution defines a natural born citizen as “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside." And, as such, these are the only people eligible for the office of president of the United States, Furthermore Article 1, section 8, Clause 4 allows the congress to make laws regarding immigration and naturalization, among other things, meaning congress could change this law if they wanted too.
So why don’t they?
Maybe it’s time for this antiquated law to change, after all, our last two presidents (George W. Bush and Barack Obama) haven’t exactly done a great job in office. Maybe some foreign perspective is what we need. Maybe we need a president who actually comes from a socialist country, and knows socialisms pros and cons to better prevent (or move) the U.S. towards this. Maybe we need a president from the country with the lowest murder rate in the world (Austria) to show us how to achieve the same result. Why not a president from Amsterdam to show us the error of US Marijuana prohibition laws?
Sometimes it takes an outsider’s perspective to really see problems and solutions. We allow foreign born citizens to govern states, so why not the country?
Like many laws governments pass, this law may need to be revisited, adjusted and reevaluated.
