Hot Pink Lipstick (revised)

I originally posted this on my hubpage . It was published in that form in e fiction magazine. I was never happy with it. Here's the revision. I think it's much, much better, but what do you think? Hot Pink Lipstick It was the first dead body I’d seen, waxy soulless. Hot pink lipstick: I laughed at the choice. Painted cheeks, rosy like those of a doll. Hands that had held mine stroked my hair, prepared my dinner, now stiff, folded angelic, no longer capable of love or embrace. My grandmother in a box lined with silk, optimum comfort for the dead, lips closed, unsmiling blue eyes hiding behind shaded lids. Red hair that had been dyed the day of her death, her final living act, unknown.

Into the Great Unknown... almost

I had a near death experience last night. I've come close to death before, nearly being swept away by the ocean when I was a child, nearly choking on my own vomit from youthful extravagances. Things like that. But, for the most part, I'm pretty unadventurous and live an uneventful life. I don't hike or climb rocks or drive erratically. I like living and I don't do things that have potential to end my own life. Last night, I was walking to exchange something at Walgreen's. I waited at the crosswalk and, when the light indicated it was my turn to walk, I did so, and I did so swiftly. One of my pet peeves is when people take their time walking across the crosswalk. Dillydallying and inconveniencing others, is not for me. I don't like it when it's done to me, so i don't do it to others. Apparently, when you're young and fighting with your girlfriend, though, all bets are off. As I was crossing, a large sedan driven by someone whom I can only as...

I need a buddy

friends, readers, random Google searchers: I need a buddy. Specifically, I need a writing buddy. What is a writing buddy? A writing buddy is a mutually beneficial writing relationship where I share my work with you, you offer me a very honest and complete critique (please, no coddling.) and feedback. Then, I return the favor for you. In essence, it's a writing workshop. In order to achieve success in the publishing world and writing world, constant and honest feedback is necessary.  So, if you think you can commit to 30-60 minutes a week of reading and following feedback on a consistent basis, and would like the same returned to you, get in touch with me . To our mutual success, Justin

24 Poetry Posting #4: fallen leaves

You know the rules enjoy. I wrote this one last night, and just completed the first revision:

24 Hour flash fiction posting: Epiphany

Hello here's an experimental flash fiction piece I wrote, inspired by the word "Epiphany". It's not done, but it's close. I appreciate your thoughts and comments! I have removed this posting. Thank you!

RIP Adam Yauch (AKA MCA)

Image
I was not a big fan of the Beastie Boys after Ill Communication but I still respect and admire what the Beastie Boys-- and, in particular-- Adam Yauch accomplished. As musicians, they helped us fight for our right to party and showed that three Jewish boys could make a living as respectable rappers. They were ground breaking in spit of their apparent silliness. As humanitarians, they fought to free Tibet from the clutches of Chinese tyranny. Adam Yauch (better known as MCA) was an activist, artist, humanitarian, husband and father. He struggled against cancer for three valiant years before losing the battle earlier today, May 4th, 2012. Our thoughts and prayers to his family. The music world has lost a great innovator and the world as a whole has lost a great man.

RIP Junior Seau

Junior Seau's was found dead today in a bedroom in his Oceanside, California home. His death is being investigated as a suicide. He was found with a gunshot wound to the chest, and a handgun lay near his body. I will update this piece is evidence of foul play is found. After starring at USC, Seau played linebacker in the NFL for twenty seasons with the San Diego Chargers, Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots. The Hall of Fame named to the All-Defensive team of the 90's. He is also a member of the San Diego Chargers Hall of Fame, along with numerous other accolades. He leaves behind three teenage children. Seau was universally liked by everyone and he, according to former teammate Heath Evans, called everyone "Buddy". He also started the Junior Seau Foundation "with the mission to educate and empower young people through the support of child abuse prevention, drug and alcohol awareness, recreational opportunities, anti-juvenile delinquency efforts and compl...
