    Justin, I find this interesting, and since the baby character can't talk, I suppose you have to tell more than show, but that makes it sound a little stilted to me. The mother's emotions come across as real, as does he patience in flollowing the Doc's instructions.

A rant, then a poem...

I'm very frustrated with hubpages at the moment. Not only does my hubber score keep dropping (and I have no idea how it's determined, but, I do know if I fall below 75, I get the dreaded "no-follow" attached to my profile. I recently published a piece called Loudbraries and it keeps getting denied publication as"substandard". The frustrating part is, I do not write substandard anything. moreover, they haven't shown me what specifically they take objection with, so, even though I've edited it, I keep resubmitting it and it keeps getting denied. I'm probably flirting with a ban, but that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. This has never happened and it's very frustrating for me. If this keeps up, i will simply publish the article here. But, enough of that. My poem I Spilled My Corn Flakes was published on the hub several months ago. Nearing the End

My wife and I have chosen not to have kids. I won't get into all the reasons for this, because it's very personal and no one's business but our ours. nonetheless, we consider ourselves parents. Of dogs . Folks that have biological children to care for perhaps don't understand this, but,we love our dogs as much as a we would love a human child. They are our babies. The unfortunate part of being a dog parent is that you are, in all likelihood, going to outlive your child. Parents of human children generally aren't going to experience this, and this puts pet parents in a unique and terrible position. Every ten or fifteen years, they will go through a grief cycle over the loss of their child. Each time rips your heart out, but you take comfort in new dogs to love and care for and in being able to share that grief with others.
